School spending needed in record time, says Rudd

The Prime Minister Kevin Rudd has told education ministers and schools representatives to treat the rollout of the economic stimulus package like a national emergency.

The Federal Government has begun briefing them on its $42 billion package, which is yet to be approved by the Senate.

If it is passed unamended almost $15 billion will be spent on school maintenance and new buildings.

Building the education revolution

To boost jobs and invest in Australia’s long term future the Rudd Government will build or upgrade buildings in every one of Australia’s 9,540 schools.

Building the Education Revolution is a $14.7 billion long term investment to improve the quality of facilities, like gymnasiums, libraries and science labs in Australian schools.
